New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) President Sharon Stern Gerstman will host the Association’s annual Presidential Summit on Wednesday, January 24.

The event will examine race, slavery and mass incarceration. The award-winning documentary “13th” by Ava DuVernay will be shown in its entirety.

Following the film, at 4 pm, a panel discussion moderated by American Bar Association President Hilarie Bass will explore the issues of mass incarceration, implicit bias, wrongful conviction, and fines and fees, as well as legal efforts to counteract all of the factors that have resulted in the incarceration of so many men and women of color.

Panelists include:

Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark

Chantá Parker, Esq., Special Counsel For New Initiatives, The Innocence Project

Jeffery P. Robinson, Esq., Deputy Legal Director and Director of the Trone Center for Justice and Equality, American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)

The event is part of NYSBA’s 141st Annual Meeting being held this week at the New York Hilton Midtown and attended by more than 4,000 attorneys.

Media is invited to NYSBA Annual Meeting events, but daily check-in is required at the registration area on the second floor of the New York Hilton Midtown, located at 1335 Avenue of the Americas, between 53rd and 54th Streets, New York, NY 10019.
