White Plains Attorney Receives State Bar Association’s Kay Crawford Murray Memorial Award

Katherin M. Crossling of White Plains, a partner at Heidell, Pittoni, Murphy & Bach, received the Kay Crawford Murray Memorial Award from the Women in Law Section as part of the New York State Bar Association’s Annual Meeting on Jan. 18.
“Katherin Crossling is an outstanding role model in the legal profession for all working parents. She has been an active advocate on the importance and value of flexible work options and helped recruit more female lawyers to her firm,” said Women in Law Section Chair Sheryl Galler (Law Office of Sheryl B. Galler). “She is a most deserving recipient.”
Crossling focuses on medical malpractice and personal injury defense. She previously worked in the Rackets Bureau of the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office where she helped devise a novel approach to prosecute those who were accused of sex trafficking involving minors.
A public servant at heart, Crossling volunteers in her community. She organized a community action group of women dedicated to analyzing suburban sex and labor trafficking issues. She founded Ossining Destination Imagination, an educational nonprofit that has supported over 300 students in after-school STEAM project-based learning.
She is a pro bono legal adviser to Rising Above Boundaries, a nonprofit dedicated to providing quality childcare to mothers in need and mentorship to at-risk youth. She is a founding member of the Harmed Suburban Five, a conglomerate of inadequately funded suburban New York school districts with high poverty that advocates for increased educational funding and enrichment opportunities.
Honoring attorneys who render extraordinary service to the public and the profession is part of NYSBA’s Annual Meeting tradition. The 145th Annual Meeting will focus on more than 65 different topics and run Jan. 18 – 28. Subjects of discussion will include Law and Ethics during the Pandemic: Individual Rights vs. the Common Good; New York State’s Surprise Billing Law Against the Backdrop of the Federal No Surprises Act; New York Energy Leadership: Can NY Become a Hub for the Energy Industry?; and Prosecutors and the Color of Justice: The Role of the Prosecutor in Reforming the Criminal Justice System.
The Presidential Summit on Thursday, Jan. 20, will focus on two of the leading social justice and civil rights matters of the day: a reevaluation of the #MeToo Movement, and the intersection of transgender rights and sports. Attorney General Letitia James will provide the keynote address.
Other featured speakers at the Annual Meeting include Court of Appeals Judge Anthony Cannataro; Lily Batchelder, assistant secretary for tax policy, Department of the Treasury; and retired Court of Appeals Judge Leslie Stein, director of the Government Law Center at Albany Law School.
