Panel Discussion

COVID-19 has brought to light many situations that arise pertaining to companion animals in a multitude of legal disciplines, including but not limited to contract law, municipal law, disability law, landlord/tenant law, criminal law, family law, and veterinary malpractice. Whether you want to learn more about the legal responsibilities of a new pet owner and what happens when they can no longer care for that pet, what rights a landlord has when a tenant brings home a new pet, whether or not companion animals can be included in an order of protection, what a companion animal’s legal status is under the law, what has changed when you bring your pet to the vet and what they means for both owners and veterinarians, and what can be done for stray animals, this panel will cover all those topics and more. A breakdown of the sub-topics is provided below:

  1. Getting a New Companion Animal
  2. Companion Plus – Distinctions between Service, Therapy and Emotional Support Animals
  3. Housing and Landlord/Tenant Concerns
  4. Domestic Violence – “The Link”
