New York State Bar Association President Urges Patience Because No Voter Should Be Disenfranchised

Scott M. Karson, president of the New York State Bar Association, issued the following statement on the presidential election:

“Counting ballots is democracy in action and the process must be allowed to continue until all eligible votes are counted. Voters across the nation waited in long lines or made an extra effort to mail in their ballots to be sure their voices would be heard, and they deserve that basic right. Simply put: No voter should be disenfranchised. While we have become accustomed to knowing the winner on the morning after the election, our laws do not require that. The process should be allowed to play out in full, and as anxious as we all may be for the results to be in, we urge patience.”
