1.26.2017
Anne Reynolds Copps of Albany (Copps DiPaola) has been awarded the New York State Bar Association Real Property Law Section Professionalism Award.
The award honors an accomplished lawyer who personifies appreciation for the profession through efforts like mentoring younger attorneys and state and local bar association involvement. Copps was presented the award January 26 during the Bar Association’s Annual Meeting in New York City.
“Anne Reynolds Copps is the lawyer the rest of us aspire to be when we grow up. She is the consummate professional—ethical, compassionate, knowledgeable, collegial, generous, dedicated to representing her clients with the utmost integrity, and a contributor to her community in ways large and small, without fanfare or grandstanding,” said Section Chair Mindy H. Stern of New York City (Schwartz, Sladkus, Reich, Greenberg, Atlas).
“The Real Property Law Section is proud to call Anne a colleague, and delighted to have had the opportunity to bestow upon her its highest achievement award.”
Copps handles real estate closings, lease negotiation, landlord tenant disputes, and foreclosures. Her practice includes drafting wills, trusts and health care proxies; legal gender changes for transgender individuals; student discipline defense; and adoption.
Copps was previously a partner at Martin, Shudt, Wallace, DiLorenzo, Copps & Johnson from 1984 to 1995 before starting her own practice. In 2014, her daughter joined her practice as partner.
Copps is a past chair of the State Bar Association’s Real Property Section and leads its subcommittee on Not-For-Profit Entities. She is president of New York Attorneys for Adoption and Family Formation, treasurer of Friends of the Rensselaer County Family Court Children’s Center, treasurer of Adoptive Families of the Capital Region, and also serves The Legal Project and the community of Mechanicville at a monthly free legal clinic.
Copps graduated magna cum laude from SUNY Albany and is a graduate of Albany Law School.
The 72,000-member New York State Bar Association is the largest voluntary state bar association in the nation. It was founded in 1876.
