Albany, New York (March 5, 2019) — The New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) has announced a new partnership with Kaplan Bar Review, a premier service for bar exam preparation.

As part of its partnership with NYSBA, Kaplan will offer NYSBA members discounts on tuition for its comprehensive bar prep courses.

Any law student at or graduate of an accredited law school in New York or New Jersey who is planning on taking the Uniform Bar Examination, one of the prerequisites for obtaining a New York law license, can join NYSBA and obtain the bar prep course discount.

NYSBA is also extending this offer to students attending the following law schools: Harvard, Georgetown, George Washington University, American University, University of Virginia and Boston University. Students and new law school graduates do not have to be New York residents to join NYSBA, and membership is free.

“We are pleased to announce this exciting alliance with Kaplan Bar Review,” said NYSBA President Michael Miller. “It substantively expands our member benefits and fits well with NYSBA’s values: championing the legal profession, ensuring that New York lawyers are among the best and most competent practitioners in the world, and reaching out to its future – law students and new graduates who aspire to be New York lawyers.”

NYSBA members get additional benefits for themselves and their families through NYSBA’s relationship with Kaplan. These include discounts for other test prep courses from Kaplan, including discounts for the SAT®, PSAT®, GRE®, LSAT®, the Professional Multistate Bar Review® and the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam®. Established in 1938, Kaplan is the world leader in the test prep industry.*

“We are proud to partner with the New York State Bar Association, one of the largest voluntary state bar associations in the country, which has long been a champion for empowering its members to keep learning and become more effective lawyers,” said Steven Marietti, president of Kaplan Test Prep’s professional licensure division. “With bar exam pass rates down from a year ago, we commend NYSBA on its proactive approach, encouraging its members to prepare for the bar, and helping them get access to high-quality preparation at a lower cost.”

According to the New York State Board of Law Examiners, 13,438 people took the bar exam in New York in 2018. First-time examinees had a pass rate of 71 percent. The pass rate for all takers was 56 percent.
