New York State Bar Association Presents Innovation Awards to 3 Bar Associations

The New York State Bar Association presented Innovation Awards to three bar associations at a ceremony Tuesday at the Bar Center in Albany.
The Asian American Bar Association of New York tackled the rise in anti-Asian violence in New York. The Asian-American association created a task force on the issue, which recommended advocacy, research, and education.
Task force members proposed legislation to revise the New York Hate Crimes statutes and set up a response team to help community members report such crimes. Working with police, government, and district attorneys’ offices, the Asian American Bar Association gathered data on hundreds of hate incidents.
The Westchester County Bar Association received the award for its work educating the public on issues such as immigration and the new expungement law for cannabis related offenses.
The Central New York Women’s Bar Association received the award for mentoring and community service. The association moved many events to outdoor venues in 2021 to better serve members during the pandemic. In the spring of 2022 in celebration of “Read Across America,” bar members donated books and funding for all of the schools within the Syracuse City School District.
The awards are presented by the New York State Bar Association’s Committee on Bar Leaders.
