New York State Bar Association President Scott M. Karson issued the following statement about the state court system’s commitment to eradicating institutional racism:

“The New York State Bar Association has long advocated for diversity and inclusion in our profession and in society at large, and we applaud Chief Judge Janet DiFiore for adopting a zero tolerance approach to racial bias and discrimination within the New York State Unified Court System. The chief judge ordered an independent review of the state courts’ policies and practices and is taking the findings of that assessment seriously. She has appointed Deputy Chief Administrative Judge Edwina Mendelson to put these recommendations into action, and Alphonso David, former counsel to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, to be an independent monitor. I cannot think of two more qualified and deserving members of the legal profession to serve in these critically important roles.”
