Name: Shaun LoVerdi
Hometown: Elba, New York
Law School: Albany Law School
Graduation Year: 2023
What inspired you to go to law school?
Ever since I was in the fifth grade, I’ve participated in Mock Trial. I’ve truly enjoyed everything about it: learning the law, being in front of a jury, and helping people get the relief they are entitled to.
What area of the law interests you and why?
I’m mostly interested in litigation. I’ve worked in both criminal prosecution and on civil plaintiff personal injury claims. I’m interested in both of these legal fields because I enjoy working with clients, being in court, and writing motions.
What extracurriculars are you involved in and how have they impacted your experience?
I’m involved in the Student Bar Association as the NYSBA At-Large Representative and the Government Law Society as the President. I’m also a member of the Albany Law Rugby Football Club. All of these involvements have introduced me to many attorneys and politicians from different fields and have really enhanced my experience throughout law school. Law school can be tough at times but having a good support system and being able to talk to attorneys that were able to succeed, really gives me the drive to push through.
What do you hope to achieve after you graduate?
I want to become a top-tier litigator in New York State.
What advice would you give to your fellow law students?
Take every opportunity that you can without overwhelming yourself. Being connected and involved in your law school’s community and the local legal community in your area will help in many ways. Being connected in the school community will help with your social life and while academics should always come first in law school, having friends to unwind with makes the journey through law school a lot more bearable. Also, if you are connected with upperclassmen, they can further guide you through your law school journey and show you how to handle being a law student. Meeting attorneys in the area will help your professional career post-graduation because one day you will be working with these attorneys, whether it be at the same firm or in opposition.
Why should other law students join NYSBA?
NYSBA offers many benefits to students. Not only do you receive a NYSBA student membership for free while being a law student, but you will also receive helpful emails outlining what practicing lawyers are currently concerned with. Furthermore, NYSBA offers wide and immense networking opportunities.
