Town Hall Meetings Scheduled To Discuss New Rules for State Supreme and County Courts
10.26.2021
The New York State Bar Association is hosting Town Hall meetings on Nov. 8 and 9 on the 29 new Uniform rules that are now in place in state Supreme Court and County Court. The association is seeking members’ input for comments it will be submitting to the Office of Court Administration.
As a result of concerns raised by NYSBA, the court system is planning to revise 12 of the 29 rules that became effective in February. In its report, which was approved by the association’s Executive Committee on Aug. 6, the association’s Uniform Rules Committee recommended eliminating 23 of the new rules. Members of the committee will give an overview of the new rules and the proposed revisions at the Nov. 8 and Nov. 9 meetings.
Please register for the Nov. 8 meeting, which will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., or for the meeting on Nov. 9, which will be 10 a.m. to noon. Members may also email comments directly to rulecomments@nycourts.gov by Dec. 6.
Based upon the concerns expressed by members, the association’s governing body, its House of Delegates, adopted a resolution in April urging a stay of the rules for one year and an opportunity for NYSBA to comment on them. While the stay was not granted, the Office of Court Administration did consider the association’s comments and made revisions.
