Diversifying CyberLaw
Despite the increasing need for skilled cybersecurity lawyers and the recognition that diverse teams are more effective than non-diverse groups at preparing for, and responding to, cyber threats, women attorneys and attorneys of color continue to be underrepresented in the cybersecurity industry. While opinions may differ as to the cause of this disparity and the most effective way to remedy this problem, the best sources of information — and inspiration – are the diverse attorneys who have defied the odds and built successful cybersecurity careers for themselves. The Committee on Technology and the Legal Profession, and its Cybersecurity Subcommittee, are proud to feature some of these trailblazing attorneys.
During this program, our expert speakers will discuss:
- What led them to pursue careers in cybersecurity;
- The challenges they’ve faced in establishing their careers in this predominantly non-diverse area of the law;
- What they see as today’s most important cybersecurity issues;
- Trends in cybersecurity law, including the evolving definition of “reasonable security” and the impact of laws like the New York SHIELD Act; and
- What the legal profession can do to make cyberlaw more diverse, equitable, and inclusive for women attorneys and attorneys of color.
