Richard S. Fries of New York City (Sidley Austin) has been awarded the New York State Bar Association Real Property Law Section Professionalism Award.

The award honors an accomplished lawyer who personifies appreciation for the profession and state and local bar association involvement. Fries was presented the award January 25 during the Bar Association’s Annual Meeting in New York City.

“The Real Property Law Section is fortunate to have Richard Fries as a member of its Executive Committee.  He provides insightful perspectives on the matters coming before the committee and consistently keeps us informed of current developments in the law,” said Section Chair Patricia E. Watkins of Glens Falls (Bartlett, Pontiff, Stewart and Rhodes).

“His generosity extends beyond our committee and our section through his dedicated service to our profession, his clients and his community,” added Watkins. “In recognition of his vast accomplishments, he is a most deserving recipient of the Real Property Law Section’s Professionalism Award.”

Fries is co-leader of Sidley’s global real estate practice. He handles complex real estate financing and workout transactions, in which he represents national and global institutional lenders, investment banks and private equity firms.

Fries has lectured at numerous Practising Law Institute, Mortgage Bankers Association, New York State Bar Association and industry group programs on real estate finance, real estate workouts and remedies.

Fries is a member of the Real Property Law Section’s Executive Committee, co-chair of its Real Estate Finance Committee and former co-chair of its Workouts and Bankruptcy Committee. He is also a member of the section’s Nominating Committee and a past delegate to the Association’s House of Delegates.
