The New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) today is saddened by the loss of longtime Buffalo attorney Paul Michael Hassett, who served as its president from 2000-2001.

“Paul Michael Hassett was a devoted leader of this great Association, having served not only as president, but also as a member of the House of Delegates for more than two decades,” said NYSBA President Michael Miller. “Whether it was leading the Special Committee to Improve Court Facilities, the President’s Committee on Access to Justice or the New York State Conference of Bar Leaders, Paul demonstrated tireless dedication to serving his colleagues and the profession.

“On behalf of the Association and as a longtime friend of Paul’s, I extend sincere condolences to his family and friends. He will be missed.”

Hassett, 77 of Tonawanda, spent much of his career as managing partner at Brown & Kelly, LLP in Buffalo. The Georgetown Law School and Canisius College graduate also served as a captain in the U.S. Army.

For NYSBA, Hassett additionally served as a NYSBA vice president representing the 8th Judicial District, was a member of the Committee on Attorney Professionalism, the Task Force on the Profession, and the Trusts and Estates Law Section. He was also a member-at-large of the Executive Committee, chair of the Committee on Public Relations, and chair of the Special Commission on Providing Access to Legal Services for Middle Income Consumers.
