New York State Bar Association President David P. Miranda issued the following statement in the aftermath of the shooting of Carey Gabay, deputy counsel to the Empire State Development Corporation. He was shot and critically wounded in Brooklyn early Monday morning.

“The thoughts and prayers of our Association and the legal community are with Carey Gabay and his family.

“Random acts of gun violence continue to take a tragic toll on all segments of our society.  It is time for us to engage in a thoughtful conversation about keeping Americans safer while respecting the rights of lawful gun owners.”
